Data Sources

Meridian aggregates macroeconomic data from publicly available sources, primarily:

  • Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) — maintained by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, freely accessible at fred.stlouisfed.org
  • Yahoo Finance — publicly available market data

We do not generate original economic data. All raw data originates from these third-party public sources.

Data Transformations

Meridian processes raw data to produce derived metrics including:

  • Z-scores (standard deviations from historical mean)
  • Percentile rankings (relative to historical distribution)
  • Regime classifications (e.g., expansion, recession, overheating)
  • Period-over-period changes and trends

These transformations are purely algorithmic — they are computed by code, not produced by human analysts. They represent mathematical computations, not expert opinions or professional analysis.

Regime Classifications

Our regime classifications (e.g., "expansion," "contraction," "overheating") are rule-based estimates, not predictions. They reflect current and historical data patterns based on predefined thresholds and algorithms. They should not be interpreted as forecasts of future economic conditions.

Not Financial Advice

Nothing provided by Meridian — including data, metrics, scores, classifications, or any other output — constitutes financial, investment, or trading advice. Past performance does not indicate future results.

You should not make any financial decisions based solely on data obtained from Meridian. Always consult qualified financial professionals and verify data with primary sources before making investment or trading decisions.

Verify with Primary Sources

We strongly recommend verifying any data point with its original source before relying on it for important decisions. While we strive for accuracy, data may contain errors, delays, or discrepancies introduced during collection, processing, or transmission.
